Key Components: • Understanding the four primary attachment styles • Exploring the interplay between authenticity and attachment in early development Gabor Mate attachment model More about Dr. Gabor Maté's Authenticity & Attachment Model: Dr. Gabor Maté a renowned physician and trauma expert, emphasizes that humans have two fundamental needs: attachment and authenticity. Attachment refers to our inherent drive to form close bonds with others, essential for survival, especially during infancy. Authenticity involves being in tune with our true feelings and expressing ourselves genuinely. In early development, when these needs clash, children often suppress their authenticity to maintain attachment with caregivers. This suppression can lead to a disconnection from ones true self, potentially resulting in emotional and physical health issues in adulthood. Recognizing and addressing this internal conflict is crucial for healing and personal growth. The serotonin and dopamine theory of attachment in which neurochemistry plays a crucial role in attachment, particularly in the dopamine and serotonin systems which influence bonding pleasure and emotional regulation. Key Practices: • Guided somatic check-in for boundary awareness • Exploring a memory of a boundary violation vs. a nourishing relational experience • Compassionate Inquiry prompts for self-reflection: • How do you nurture yourself? • How does your body communicate tension or ease in relationships? • What new ways can you respond to stress while staying anchored in self-compassion?
